Compare HVAC quotes without mixing price and scope
Three HVAC bids are only directly comparable when they describe substantially the same installed work. Enter each total, its own confirmed rebate, and its own stated savings in a separate proposal. Then mark which scope items are actually written down. The worksheet shows net cash due and lets you choose a proposal to compare with repairing.
Find the line that explains the price gap
- Check the make and exact model of indoor and outdoor equipment, capacity, and the sizing method. Similar-sounding systems can differ in what is supplied.
- Read the installation scope: ducts, electrical, permits, removal, startup tests, and labor warranty. Record exclusions instead of assuming they are included.
- If one quote is much lower, ask what explains the difference. The FTC recommends multiple written estimates and warns against automatically choosing the lowest bidder.
Scope that must match across HVAC bids
A missing cell means the quote has not said. Ask whether that work is excluded or will be priced later. Do not treat a blank as included.
